One of the most frustrating things with a CGM isn’t the readings.
It’s when the sensor starts peeling off early.
I’ve had sensors loosen from:
- sweating
- catching them at work
- showers
- everyday movement
And once it starts lifting, you spend the next few days trying to save it.
Over time, I realised a few small things make a huge difference.
Why CGMs Fall Off So Easily
A few common reasons:
- sweat
- oily skin
- movement
- friction from clothes
- humid weather
If you work a physical job or train regularly, it’s even harder.
What Helped Mine Stay On Longer
1. Applying It To Clean Skin
This sounds obvious, but it matters.
Now I:
- clean the area properly
- let it fully dry
- avoid moisturiser beforehand (Be carful as certain moisturisers can be oily)

2. Applying It At Night
I found applying sensors before bed helped the adhesive settle better before a busy day.
3. Using Overpatches
This made the biggest difference.
Especially during:
- hot weather
- workouts
- busy work days
Some are much more comfortable than others though.
4. Avoiding Overused Areas
If the skin is irritated already, patches tend to stick worse.
What To Look For In A Good Patch
For me:
- strong adhesive
- comfortable and breathable
- not too bulky
- doesn’t irritate skin
Everyone’s skin reacts differently though.

Final Thoughts
CGMs make life easier when they stay on properly.
Sometimes the smallest changes:
- skin prep
- placement
- extra support patches
make the biggest difference.
